Sal and Kina are two amazing friends of mine that I've known since middle school, and their love story is one that all hopeless romantics would swoon over.  Their romantic relationship began in high school, and over the years it's proved to be so much more than puppy love.  They seem to be stronger and more in love with each passing day... it's truly inspiring!  They welcomed their son, Sal Jr., in 2014 and he's complimented their family to the fullest.  For little Sal's first birthday, Sal and Kina wanted to celebrate in a big way, and decided that baptizing him with all of their loved ones surrounding them would be the best way to do it!

With heartfelt help from family, they set up an amazingly beautiful day with no detail left undone.  Amazing homemade Mexican food, a beautiful dessert and gift table, a games area, and decorations that fit the theme just perfectly.  My favorite part of it all was watching Little Sal being pulled in a decorated Radio Flyer to the priest, as everyone blew bubbles and played music for him...  he smiled non-stop and had such a great time!

It was such an honor to be a part of this special day, and brings me such joy to see my friends so happy and complete.  Thanks again Sal and Kina for having me!! xoxo

Mendocino http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/9/mendocino Wow, friends...  can you believe Summer is almost at an end?!  It feels like my kids just got out of school, and already (this week) started again!  Not that our break was insignificant, in fact, it was packed full of awesome.  I was busy with lots of AMAZING weddings with AMAZING couples.  The summer also brought lots of fun times with family and friends.  We spent lots of time in our hometown of Sonoma, went camping in several beautiful places, and then (to wrap it all up with a big ol' cherry on top) we took a trip to Mendocino.  That area is one of my favorite places on the planet... where else can you have the mountains covered in redwoods, and the beautiful beach, all in ONE place?!  It's truly incredible.

I can't wait to share all the beautiful weddings and sessions I've been shooting the last few couple months, but I figured I'd start blogging again after my hiatus by wrapping up summer and sharing some personal photos... sound good?!

* * *

My husband has an amazing golden ticket... it's called, a State Park and National Parks pass, which means that our family gets to benefit greatly from him by going to any State or National Park for FREE!!  We try to take advantage of this luxury anytime possible, including our Mendo trip.  We booked a spot at the beautiful Van Damme Campground and set up camp after a looooong drive (our normal 4 hour drive turned into 6, due to construction traffic and potty stops for the kids).  To say the kids were ready to get out of the car and play is an understatement.  I don't think I've seen them (or our dog, Sierra) jump out of the car so fast in my life....   and high tail it right to the beautiful creek that ran through our site: a kid's paradise!

We got to Van Damme around 5pm, so after setting up, there wasn't time for much else.  We made a campfire and had dinner and told stories around it until we called it a night.

Day Two:  We woke up and decided to take a 20 minute drive down HWY 128 to my husband, Gabe's, favorite childhood campground, Paul Dimmick, which is in the heart of the redwoods and ferns (90's kids.. remember FernGully?!  This place would make your fairy-lovin hearts flutter!)  We were bummed to see that the campground was closed for the year due to budget cuts, but we didn't see any "no trespassing signs" so we took advantage!  This campground brings back sweet memories for my husband, who used to climb the trees (some which have been hollowed out from loggers and fires over the years) that look like castles.  His inner-kid was bursting with joy as he climbed them with our kids, and played amongst the forest.

After strolling through the forest for a few hours, we decided to head back towards town, and stopped at the Big River beach access to soak up the surf and lay in the warm sand.  Our dog, Sierra, was so happy she could get out and run around with other dogs, and fetch rocks from the waves (yeah, rocks are her thing....  what can I say?)

After Big River, we had to pick up some things from the store in town, so we stopped by the headlands to check out the view before heading back to camp.

Day Three: We wanted to spend the entire day in the ADORABLE town of Mendocino, so that's exactly what we did.  The headlands and the town charm are like something out of a romance novel.  I can imagine that writers would be very happy making this place their home... it certainly inspires me to write more often.  I also love how the town has so many eclectic shops and awesome people... reminds me of Nevada City in that way.  The like-minded nature of it all makes me so happy.  I seriously just want to pack up and divide my time here and there...  wouldn't that be a dream come true?!

When we got back to camp that night, Jared and Faith played Ninja Turtles in the creek/under the bridge.  I loved watching them play and caught some action shots of them doing their ninja moves :)  Then, we ate dinner and celebrated the last night of our trip with s'mores!

I honestly wasn't ready to leave, but we had to get back home.  Real life awaits, it always does.  But, we realized that the famous beach covered in glass was only slightly out of our way going back home, so we ventured into Fort Bragg to witness what nature took back.  Glass Beach was once a dump site, but after years of the ocean smoothing out the glass, it's become a beautiful reminder of Mother Nature's rule... that she will ALWAYS take back what's hers.  I've always wanted to see it in person, and it definitely lived up to my expectations!!  So unique and truly beautiful, just like Mendocino itself.  I can't wait to go back, already...

Poppy Jane - A Newborn Session http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/poppy-jane---a-newborn-session Oh my goodness, this blog post is definitely bringing a smile to your face...  babies are sure to do that, especially this adorable one-week old newborn that I had the pleasure of photographing in the privacy of her own home.  Sweet little Poppy Jane was a dream to shoot-- she was in such peace for the entire 2 hours I spent with her.  Her sweet momma bid on my services at a school fundraiser for Nevada City School of the Arts, and I'm so happy they won the prize because I rarely photograph babies and they're always so amazing to capture!

I brought along some props courtesy of Roots Reclaimed, and Poppy's mom included some of her own...  the end result was simple yet beautiful.  I'm so excited to share these with you today. xoxo

Tin Roof Farmhouse - Open House! http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/tin-roof-farmhouse---open-house I feel so privileged to work with some of the most talented and nicest people in the wedding industry, including Erica Henderson from Tin Roof Farmhouse, who has become a dear friend of mine!  I met her at a wedding we both worked at, and since then we've collaborated on several styled shoots and bonded quickly.  She has an amazing heart and is so sweet to work with... not to mention, her items and styling are absolutely beautiful!  I highly recommend hiring her for your next event or wedding... she has a little something for everyone :)

Recently, she hosted an Open House at her beautiful home in Grass Valley, and I was there to capture it all.  Also presenting their work: the lovely Angela Nunnink of Hair and Makeup by Angela, Jennifer and Carlos Trujillo from Farm to Table Catering, Amy Stoeckle from Bee, Leaves n Love, Joanna Morgan from Vintage Blossom Cakes, Lauren Roepcke from Love Tag Design, and Debbie Jensen of I Do's by Deb.

I hope you enjoy these images from Erica's beautiful event... she worked tirelessly along with her husband to make this all come together, so I hope I did it justice!  Don't forget to check out her website and get more info on her beautiful rentals!  xo

Ashlei and Steffen - Sonoma Wedding Reception http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/ashlei-and-steffen---sonoma-wedding-reception Ashlei and Steffen
May 15th, 2015
The Swiss Hotel, Sonoma CA

Sometimes, plans fall apart in order to make way for something more fitting and beautiful... at least, that was the case with Ashlei and Steffen's wedding.  Originally, they were planning a huge wedding with all the bells and whistles, but when it came down to it, they decided a private ceremony and separate wedding reception suited them better.  I wasn't able to witness their nuptials, but I was so happy they invited me along to capture their reception on the back patio of the historic Swiss Hotel in downtown Sonoma.

Ashlei and Steffen have been together for years- I went to high school with them and remember when they began dating wayyyyy back when.  It's one of those love stories that people hear about and are reminded that true love in fact *does* exist... and they make it look easy, like a real-life fairytale.  With three beautiful children by their side, they've built a beautiful life around them already.  It's obvious to anyone that they were already committed to each other and their family, but Ashlei and Steffen decided it was time to make their union official.  They wanted to celebrate with their loved ones, including their European family who flew all the way from Norway to congratulate the happy family-- such a special treat!

I love that this entire day was all about family and the love they share.  Even the cake was made by Steffen's mom, who did an outstanding job making it look super professional and pretty.  It was such an honor to be a part of this day...  I'm just so inspired by the sincerity, abundant love and commitment that this family shares.  Thank you for having me, and I hope you enjoy this recap from your beautiful day. xo

Lucia Rae http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/lucia-rae My newest niece arrived a week and three days ago, and I'm absolutely head-over-heels in love with this little angel!  Lucia Rae was born on June 8th at Sonoma Hospital to my only brother, Alex, and his amazing fiance Lindsey.  She was also welcomed by her proud bigger sister, Zoe, and tons of other adoring family members, including her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Yes indeed, she's SO loved, and although it may be hard to believe, that love grows more and more every day!!

Although I live several hours away, I was fortunately able to be there on the day of her birth.  I brought my daughter, Faye, along with me and we marveled at the beauty of our precious new family member.  It's hard to believe she's already over a week old, and every time I see new pictures of her on Facebook, she seems to change more and more.  I can't wait to get back to Sonoma and get in a snuggle session, until then, these photos will have to suffice!

May 1st, 2015
Harrah's Resort Lake Tahoe

I'm so glad I added an elopement package to my wedding sheet, because there's something so special and fun about elopements!  Less details means more focus on the couple and the love they share.  Kevin and Ashley are a SWEET, young and playful couple who decided to invite their immediate family and closest friends to witness their exchange of vows in beautiful Lake Tahoe.  Their ceremony and reception were inside the Harrah's Resort, which had amazing views of the lake.

With lots of laughter, funny faces and jokes being thrown around, their special day was nothing short of amazing.  Thank you Kevin and Ashley for choosing me as your photographer, it was such a pleasure. <3

Bonnie and Richard - Cline Cellars, Sonoma Wedding http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/bonnie-and-richard---cline-cellars-sonoma-wedding Bonnie and Richard
April 12, 2015
Sonoma, CA

Venue: Cline Cellars Vineyard and Winery
Officiant: Rev. Blane from Napa Valley Weddings
Floral Design: Sal the Floral Guy

Surrounded by their closest friends and family, Bonnie and Richard exchanged heartfelt vows on a beautiful Spring day in Sonoma.  Cline Cellars proved to be the perfect location for their elopement, with it's beautiful gardens and intimate patio space for their friend's to gather and celebrate Bonnie and Richard's love!

Individually, Bonnie and Richard are optimistic, filled with gratitude and have a huge love for life; it's no wonder they came together and found an abundance of laughter and happiness in one another.  Even from the outside, it's obvious that these two are soul mates.  I was inspired by the close relationships they held between their family and friends, it was evident they are loved and supported by so many! :)

Rev. Blane (who happens to be one of my personal favorite officiants) delivered an amazing, heartfelt and personal ceremony, then showered Bonnie and Richard in rose petals as they were presented as Husband and Wife.  Guests cheered and embraced, truly filled with happiness for the newlywed couple...  it was so sweet to witness!

We made our way to the on-site museum for their reception, which was a unique and beautiful space filled with Native American artifacts, California Mission history, and photos of Sonoma's history.  Amazing food and wine, and plenty of laughter and good conversation filled the room...  it was such a fun day, and I was truly honored to be part of it all <3

My Niece is Almost Here!! http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/my-niece-is-almost-here Hey friends, it's been a while since I've blogged and that's because April and May were extremely busy months!  I've been super lucky though, because all of my clients this year have been the bomb diggity, and I have some incredibly sweet weddings to share on the blog soon!  But up today is a session that is close to my heart...  and that's because my own brother and his sweet family are the adorable subjects.

My younger brother Alex is one awesome guy.  Everybody loves him and that's because he's got the best sense of humor, and a heart of gold.  As his big sister, I've watched him grow up from this goofy kid into a responsible young man-- especially in this last year, he's blossomed in so many ways and I've never seen him so happy and healthy.  There are many reasons why he's so high in the clouds and loving life, and 3 of the reasons are right here:  his fiancee, Lindsey, her daughter Zoe annnnnd....    their baby girl to be, Lucia!!  Yes, you heard that right-- I'm gonna be an auntie again!!  Although I have 9 nieces and nephews on my husband's side (and I love those kids to pieces), this will be my first niece from my only brother, so I'm especially excited for her arrival! <3

Ever since Lindsey came into my brother's life, I've known it was right.  They compliment each other so well, and I can totally see why my brother finds Lindsey and Zoe so special.  Those girls are witty and smart, beautiful and fun; as a family unit, they're so natural together.  I've enjoyed watching Alex take on the fatherly role with Zoe, whom I instantly adored as well.  Zoe is so adorable, so thoughtful and sweet... it proves what a great mom she has.  I feel equally lucky to have those ladies in MY life, and I'm so excited to watch their family grow!!

I could go on and on, but I'll spare the extra lovey-dovey details and get to the pictures!  I was honored to shoot their maternity session, and feel so overwhelmed with gratitude when I look at these images.  We went to the Sonoma Regional Park, in our hometown of Sonoma, for a sunset shoot a couple weeks ago.  My dad, husband and kids came along to hang out/watch/entertain themselves....  so of course, my kids insisted on jumping into one of the frames!  That's them with their uncle Alex, Lindsey and Zoe in the first photo.

Baby Lucia is due to arrive THIS Monday, so I thought it would be perfect to share their sweet maternity session now.  I can't wait to see her beautiful face and hold her in my arms!  I'm so proud and happy for this sweet family, and incredibly thankful for them in my life <3

Noah and Jacqui - Ledson Winery Elopement http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/noah-and-jacqui---ledson-winery-elopement Noah and Jacqui
Ledson Winery - Kenwood, Ca
Officiant: Allen White
Cake: Mariposa Bakery
Hair: Megan Walsh at Bloom Salon
Gown: Mori Lee
Flowers arranged by Ledson Winery

I immediately knew I would click with this awesome couple from Arizona as soon as we spoke on the phone a few months prior to their elopement.  The conversation was easy and fun as we got to know one another; I learned that they both love the outdoors and are adventurous and outdoorsy (my kinda people!) and when I asked how they met, their story made me swoon (it was fate: they kept bumping into each other on the trail- I mean, how perfect for the nature loving couple, right?!)  Jacqui and Noah asked the usual questions I'd expect them to be curious of...   then, threw a few surprise questions my way...  for instance, "What's your favorite line from Airplane?"  Uh, it's been years since I've seen that movie so they stumped me...  then gave me homework.  I had to watch Airplane and get back to them with my answer!  I watched it happily, and I'd have to say that was the best homework I've been assigned.  I knew when their big day rolled around, we were going to connect in an awesome way and have tons of fun together!

Noah and Jacqui couldn't have picked a better day for exchanging their vows...  it was a beautiful, warm Spring day in the wine country, with almost no clouds in the sky and buds blooming throughout the vineyard.  With Jacqui's parents, sister, best friend and Noah's best friend by their side, they kept the day intimate and easy going.  Their ceremony was sweet and simple, by contrast of the magnificent and dramatic backdrop of the Ledson Winery mansion and rolling hills: it was pure perfection.  We spent the next couple hours walking the beautiful property, creating beautiful moments and then enjoyed a wine tasting on the back balcony.  With such down-to-earth, friendly people as company, the vibe was light-hearted with plenty of good stories and expressive, hilarious moments.

Our time together came to a close when Jacqui and Noah joined their company and took off for dinner in style...  it was the perfect ending to a fairytale kind of day.  I'll never forget this genuine couple, and feel so honored to have been a part of their special day.  Thank you Jacqui, Noah and your fabulous family and friends for allowing me to be a part of it all.

Chasen is One! http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/chasen-is-one I've photographed this family a few times now, and I can't tell you how much I love it...  each time not only brings good memories, but beautiful photos.  I feel fortunate to call Matt, Leilani and their adorable son, Chasen, true friends of my family...  and I'm also thankful that I get to capture such sweet moments for them, while also watching their family grow.

Little Chasen just turned one, and so we met at Bartholomew Park Winery in Sonoma for some family portraits.  The last time I saw Chasen, he was just learning to sit up... now he's crawling (almost walking) everywhere, and there's no stopping him.  He was antsy and a bundle of fun, just like a one year old boy should be!!

Next time I photograph them, it'll be for Matt and Leilani's big wedding celebration in July (which is sure to be amazing)!  I'm hoping to sneak in some time between now and then, though.  Love you Morton family-- and thanks again for being such sweet, supportive friends.

Darian and Rachel - The Lodge at Sonoma Wedding http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/darian-and-rachel---sonoma-lodge-wedding Rachel and Darian
February 28th 2015
Sonoma Lodge

I had the pleasure of second shooting for Megan Clouse once again, which is a delight since her weddings are always beautiful and fun.  This time around, we shot a wedding at The Lodge at Sonoma- a beautiful resort in the center of town.  The bride and groom met on a Jewish online dating site, and sparks flew the second they met.  Darian and Rachel were genuine and kind people, and it was really nice to witness their love and their beautiful religious customs.  It was my first time at a Jewish wedding, and I absolutely loved everything about their celebration- especially during the reception (you'll see why!)

Thanks Megan for letting me tag along with you again, and thank you Rachel and Darian for allowing me the privilege of photographing your stunning wedding day.  Congratulations again!

Caysi // Chic Mamas Fashion Shoot http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/caysi---chic-mamas-fashion-shoot I'm so excited to finally share this blog post, it's been a long time coming!  If you follow my Instagram or Facebook page, you might have already heard about the recent collaboration I had with The Chic Mamas, specifically their Northern Cali mama, Caysi Burns.  I love The Chic Mama's great style and inspiration, so it's a huge honor to be their go-to photo gal in Nor Cal :)

For our first fashion session, Caysi and I hit the countryside and streets of Sonoma, CA (our mutual hometown!) where Caysi modeled three looks she styled herself.  She also did her own hair and makeup, which is conveniently awesome because not only is she a blogger, busy mom and wife, she's also a hair stylist!  We had so much fun together, and I'm so looking forward to what collaborations lie ahead...

Go check out The Chic Mamas if you haven't already!!  xoxo

Jennifer Hall at The Studio Collective http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/3/jennifer-hall-at-the-studio-collective There's been some buzz in the wedding industry around Grass Valley/Nevada City lately, regarding a new wedding planner/day-of coordinator who's new and local, and ready to bring her impeccable eye for style, amazing organization skills and cheerful disposition to Northern CA weddings and beyond!  Her name is Jennifer Hall, and I had the chance to meet her last week and take portraits and photos for her new website, coming out soon!

We started in her own garden, and moved to The Studio Collective at Roots Reclaimed, where we are both members.  The studio was looking beautiful as always, with a table set up, lounge area and office space.  I photographed each space with the intention of showing her work flow and style.  The studio cat even graced us with her modeling skills...

Here's a sneak peek of what's to come on her site!  Stay tuned for more info soon! xo

Natalie and Tommy - Chalk Hill Winery Wedding http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/3/natalie-and-tommy---chalk-hill-winery-wedding Natalie & Tommy
August 23, 2014
Chalk Hill Winery - Healdsburg, CA

This featured wedding was one I second shot alongside the incredibly talented Megan Clouse Photography last summer, and now that it's been published I can finally share their beautiful day!

No detail was overlooked for Tommy and Natalie's stunning wedding at the Chalk Hill Winery in Healdsburg.  From the moment I walked into Tommy's hotel suite to photograph him and his groomsmen getting ready, I knew the day would be full-to-the-brim with elegance and amusement.

The Chalk Hill Winery is by far one of my favorite venues, with so many different elements to the property and beautiful views that take your breath away.  A mission style chapel sits perched on top a vineyard-spread hill, which is where we arranged for Tommy and Natalie to have their first look and take portraits.  They were then escorted to their ceremony in a vintage Packard, which comes with a great story.  You see, ever since Natalie was a small girl, her father's best friend promised to let her use his Packard on her wedding day; when he passed away only recently, the family was devastated to lose somebody so close.  But, they were taken completely by surprise when they learned that he put in his will for Natalie to use the Packard whenever she so happened to get married.  Even after his passing he made sure to keep his promise, making the car ever that much more special.  Having the car there no doubt made them feel as though their family friend was there in spirit.

The ceremony commenced on the beautiful lawn, with a swanky cocktail hour immediately following.  A quartet playing only rock songs entertained their guests, and tasty treats were passed around for everyone to enjoy before being shuttled to their next destination.  The reception was located in the equestrian pavilion, set a top another hill with views of the chapel, gardens and rolling vineyards.  An amazing dinner was served before the heart-felt and hilarious toasts were made, and dancing began immediately after with the awesome 80's cover band, Tainted Love, playing into the night.  Tommy and Natalie even hired a cigar roller, which was a huge hit among the gentlemen who gathered on the balcony puffing smoke into the sunset.  Yes, this was by far one of the most detailed and fun weddings I've had the honor of accompanying with Megan Clouse, and I'm so grateful to have been there to experience it in all it's glory.

Fresh Bash // Inspiring Wedding Event http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/3/fresh-bash---inspiring-wedding-event Hey all!  Last week, I headed down to Beatnik Studios in Sacramento with my friend Erica Henderson of Tin Roof Farmhouse to check out the first annual Fresh Bash wedding experience--  I call it an experience because it was a wedding fair unlike any other!  I wasn't quite sure what to expect, since it was geared towards wedding vendors (brides and the general public were also welcome) but when I arrived, I realized it far exceeded anything I had imagined!

From the moment Erica and I set foot on the studio grounds, we were blown away by the creativity, wide variety of vendors and beauty of the entire set up!  It was beyond fun: there was dancing, photo booths of every kind, amazing food and drinks were handed out, and wildly creative vignettes were put together by different teams of wedding professionals (including my friends at Roots Reclaimed) that were displayed for inspiration & some friendly competition...  the guests voted and Team Rad won the best vignette by the end of the night.  I loved the common trends which were intertwined between all of the vignettes and vendors...  it's obvious that 2015 is the year of the boho/geometric/pastel elements, and I LOVE IT ALL!!  Besides the beauty, it was also great to mingle with other wedding professionals, we all appreciated expanding our networking circles!

To top it off: the first 100 guests (me included!) were given an incredible swag bag that included treats, business cards and offers, a flower crown, sparklers and even a tiny pinata plus more!  It was definitely the icing on the cake.  By the end of the night, I didn't wanna go!  The first Fresh Bash was a huge success, and I absolutely cannot wait for next year.  Thank you to the fabulous girls who put the party together, including: Rosaura of Pigment and Parchment, Carmen of Carmen Salazar Photography, Dena of Throne Invitations and Hailey of Pretty Planner Weddings & Events.

Styled Faux-Engagement - Parisian Inspired http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/2/styled-faux-engagement---parisian-inspired Today, I'm excited to share my styled shoot with Erica Henderson from Tin Roof Farmhouse, Angela Nunnink of Hair and Makeup by Angela and Felicia Yoder of Broad St. Bistro.  This Parisian-inspired shoot was recently published on the Love and Lavender wedding blog, so now I'm finally able to share with you! <3

Although it would have been nice to travel to Paris for this faux-engagement session, we fortunately live in the charming town of Nevada City which has many elements that remind us of the romantic city: flower boxes, sweet little bistros and oil-lamps lining the historic streets.  With Erica's help, she styled Broad St. Bistro's outdoor patio with simplicity and romance in mind.  Tulips, vintage teacups, old books and a sweetheart table surrounded by an adorable vignette made for a perfect scene.  With help from Felicia Yoder, who is the resident baker at Broad Street Bistro, she decorated our vignette with two tiny cakes and some delicious petit fours (I know, because I ate them after all was done, and all I can say is... WOW!)  Angela Nunnink created a beautiful French Twist for our model's hair, and did her makeup so delicately with pink hues for a natural look.

Our faux-engagement begins at the local ice cream shoppe, Treats, which has a sweet aesthetic and gave us instant inspiration.  I decided last minute that our model should "propose" with the ice cream cone, and I think it turned out adorable.  Our friend, Erin Thiem from the Outside Inn, got in contact with me when she heard we were putting together this shoot, and graciously offered for us to use her vintage Riley Elf, which was small and reminded me of something you'd see on the streets of Paris.

The whole session came together so cohesively and beautifully, and I'm thrilled with the results.  I hope you are too!  Special thanks to Cierra Pemberton and Andrew Wilkins for being our wonderful models! xoxo

Good Day Sacramento! http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/2/good-day-sacramento Well HELLO!  No, I didn't drop off the earth...  I'm still alive and I'm kickin' baby!!  It's been a great year so far, and I have lots to share with everyone...  I'll try to make it as short and sweet as possible, but when I start writing I can't make any promises! ;)

January and February is typically a slow period for wedding photographers, but it's also a nice time to tie up loose ends, and prepare for the busy year ahead; at least, that's certainly been the case with me!  It's been refreshing fixing up my website a little bit, getting my marketing going, and even photographing a few styled shoots with the lovely Erica Henderson from Tin Roof Farmhouse (we can't wait to share soon!!)  I've also been preparing for taxes (yuck), meeting with clients (you guys are going to LOVE my couples this year-- I have some FUN weddings ahead!!!), and... (drum roll please)

Appearing on Good Day Sacramento with my incredibly talented friends from Roots Reclaimed Vintage Rentals and their other Collective vendors!!  Yes, you heard me right...  I was literally on TV today, live on the air, and it was AWESOME!!!!!  Can you tell I'm still just a little giddy?!  Well, NOW I am...   but before and during my interview, I gotta admit I was feeling out-of-my-skin and soooo nervous.  But, I made it.  WHEW!

So, how did I get the chance to be interviewed on Good Day Sacramento?  Roots Reclaimed and their Collective Studio was asked to be featured on the CBS station for Good Day Sacramento's wedding special, so all of us vendors decided to crash the party ;)  Actually-- they asked us to come, and I was delighted!  I wasn't expecting to be interviewed (although I knew it was a possibility-- yes, I admit I even practiced how I'd stand in front of the camera, which became completely useless because I forgot my moves as soon as the spotlight was on me!) but when Cambi Brown (the seriously warm and sweet news anchor) asked if I could talk about the photography business, I happily agreed!

We arrived suuuuper early this morning to prepare, the the studio looked AMAZING.  Nicole Wright and Beth Lowetz (studio owners) outdid themselves once again, and decked out the entire warehouse, studio and hair/makeup counter in different themes.  Some of my older photos on canvas were hung around the studio in unique ways (I always get inspired by Nicole and Beth's killer styling skills).  Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take photos of all the vignettes but you can see more on the video preview at the end of this post.

I LOVED this Valentine's sweetheart table setup...

And I got so excited when they started shooting in the warehouse, I couldn't help but take some photos through the glass door...  which actually turned out kinda cool I thought :)

I loved watching how Cambi and her cameraman worked (I wanted to be a news anchor for a short period in High School).  They have some down time in between commercials, but once they're on they are really ON.  I loved how vibrant and silly Cambi was... she was just as fun off camera, a true TV personality.  She joked with us, and tried to make us feel comfortable and prepared (thank you Cambi!!)  During filming, she only had so much time so her questions were to the point, and she moved fast.  During my interview, I tried to get my website address in there but she had to move on because her producers were pressuring her, but hey it was cool.  I felt a little awkward, but at least I have some awesome new Instagram followers!

Tomorrow happens to be Cambi's birthday, so before they took off, we presented her a cake and made a hashtag:  #happybirthdaycambi

I think she loves us! ;)

I had such a great time today...  it was a long, stressful, awkward, nerve-wracking day BUT it was also one of the best I've had in a long time.  Thank you Roots Reclaimed and Good Day Sacramento for the amazing opportunity!!  I will never forget it :)

2014: Thanks for the Memories! http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/1/2014-thanks-for-the-memories A new year has arrived, and as we're diving further into the Winter season, it's a time for reflection and intention.

As I personally look back on 2014, I remember my thoughts and feelings this time, last year.  I was in a stagnant period, wondering if I had the drive to push my business forward and to actually manifest my goals.  I decided to go for it, but laid out baby steps in order to gain the confidence I lacked.  I promised myself that 2014 would be the year I submitted to publishers.  I made a decision to continue my degree in photography.  I told myself I would travel, and take a workshop.  All of this, I accomplished... but it didn't happen overnight.

I had my doubts and fears-- plus a super slow internet that made my working ability nearly impossible.  But I decided that those things were minor obstacles that wouldn't prevent me from reaching my goals.

I pushed myself to reach out to my community, to meet wedding professionals and make connections that would benefit all of us.  I pushed myself to sign up for a wedding fair, and put together my own booth (with basically no clue how to style it!) but I did, and my confidence began to grow...

I built connections with clients and worked with a new perspective.  I began getting back images that really spoke to me, and represented my vision of my business.  I signed up for Two Bright Lights and (although it took me until the end of the year) I finally submitted a couple albums... and got published under MY name for the first time (although I've technically been published before, as a second shooter, I was never credited)  so it felt fantastic to get that notch on my belt!

I took a trip with my sweet friend and mentor, Megan Clouse, down to Carmel & Monterey for a gorgeous styled shoot and workshop with an amazing team of wedding professionals.  It tested me in ways I didn't expect, and also taught me skills that pushed me to a new level of professionalism.

I came back to the Sierra Foothills and an amazing opportunity presented itself.  Roots Reclaimed opened a studio in the heart of Grass Valley, and I became one of their first wedding vendors to sign up to use their space for client meetings, photo shoots and work space (with FAST internet- which instantly made my life 100x easier!)  Having my own place to work, aside from my home, gave me the confidence and power to take my business even higher.

Because of these life changing events, I met amazing clients who became friends, witnessed some amazing real-life moments (like photographing my friend's baby girl, who was born 2 months early...  doing my first "Trash the Dress" session at the beautiful Yuba River.... and also photographed *two* same-sex weddings, which I was so proud and honored to support!) and made connections with wedding professionals that opened doors for all of us...  back in October, I even helped style and shoot my first styled wedding alongside my friend Erica (those photos are in the process of being published, and I'm so anxious to share them!)

Because of these experiences and accomplishments, I'm looking at 2015 with an unstoppable mind frame and have absolutely no doubt that this will be my year to truly shine.  I'm over the hump, I'm over the fears and doubts, and I've grown past the baby steps...  I'm now running, full speed ahead and nothing can stop me...

2015, I'm here and I'm ready for you.

PS-- special thanks to Lydia Photography for the business headshots, and Megan Clouse for the "behind the scene" photographs.

Keenan & Caitlin ~ Baby on the Way... http://katiewhitephotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2014/12/keenan-caitlin-baby-on-the-way When I found out that my younger brother's friend, Keenan, was expecting a baby with his beautiful girlfriend, Caitlin, my heart just about melted!  Keenan is such a great guy, and I'm so happy he found such a sweet woman to accompany him through life and parenthood.  They both deserve the best, and it appears they've found it in each other!

Caitlin moved all the way from Baltimore to the little town of Sonoma, and met Keenan one night at a local hot spot.  They clicked immediately and have been inseparable ever since...   and I can see why.  When you're around them, you can see sparks flying...

I was so happy to meet them at their home in Kenwood, where we played with their first "baby" (their Australian Shepard, Romeo) in their spacious backyard.  Then, we took a stroll down the road to an old barn covered with vines.  The sun was peeking through the trees so perfectly, and I captured some of my favorite photos of the day.

Next, we ventured to the neighboring town of Glen Ellen, where Keenan's grandfather's ranch is located.  His Sonoma Valley estate is seriously swoon-worthy; most people can only dream of owning such a gorgeous piece of property in the heart of the wine country.  It was breathtaking, and there was SO much to shoot!!  His grandfather has an old car and a funky RV that I couldn't resist including in the photos, not to mention his beautiful horses that casually grazed in the field.  *sigh*  Perfect locations make me so happy!!

Thank you so much Keenan and Caitlin for the lovely day, and I'm SO excited for the life that awaits you both.  Your baby is going to be absolutely beautiful inside and out, just as you both are! xoxo
